Witan Terms of Service

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of the Witan mobile application and website (together, "Witan"). By using Witan, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Witan.

2. What Witan is

Witan is a GPS-triggered audio travel guide providing historical stories and information about places in Great Britain. Witan is for entertainment and education. Witan is NOT:

• A sat-nav or navigation system
• A source of driving directions
• A replacement for paying attention to the road
• A guarantee that all historical information is 100% accurate

3. Safety — Important

If you are driving:

• Set up Witan before you start driving
• Do not interact with your phone while driving
• Keep your eyes on the road at all times
• Follow all traffic laws and regulations
• Pull over safely if you need to adjust settings

Witan is designed to work hands-free. Stories play automatically — you should not need to touch your phone while travelling. You are responsible for using Witan safely and legally.

4. Subscriptions and payments

Free Guide: Available without payment or account.

My Guide subscription: £2.99/month or £24.99/year. Subscriptions are managed through the App Store or Google Play.

Cancellation: You can cancel your subscription anytime through your device's subscription settings (not through the Witan app). You keep access until your billing period ends. No refunds for partial periods.

Important: Deleting your Witan account does NOT cancel your subscription. You must cancel separately through the App Store or Google Play.

5. Content accuracy

Witan follows a Truth Protocol classifying all content as Historically Verified, Historically Debated, or Folklore & Legend. We strive for accuracy but make no guarantee that all information is complete or error-free. Historical understanding evolves and sources sometimes conflict.

Do not rely on Witan for academic research without verifying sources independently.

6. Your responsibilities

• Use Witan safely and legally
• Keep your account credentials secure
• Do not reverse-engineer, copy or redistribute Witan content
• Do not use Witan for any unlawful purpose
• Provide accurate information when creating an account

7. Intellectual property

Witan content, including audio narration, text, images and software, is protected by copyright. You may not copy, distribute, modify or create derivative works without our written permission.

8. Limitations of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Witan is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of Witan.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to Witan if you breach these terms. You may stop using Witan at any time. See our Delete Account page for instructions on removing your account.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of Witan after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be communicated through the app or by email.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
